Epsom Salt: Is a naturally occurring mineral found in water when the water evaporates, crystals are left. When reintroduced to water it breaks back down into Magnesium sulfate which our body absorbs. This is good to treat minor, sore muscles and sprains. Magnesium is found in this salt and It helps muscles contract and relax. Epsom salt helps to relax the muscles, reduce swelling, stiffness and pain from arthritis, fibromyalgia, gout and various causes. It also helps promote over all relaxation and the release of toxins from our body.

Eucalyptus is a member of the mother’s toolkit because it is great for breaking up congestion and quieting coughs.  Inhaling the steam and smell will help to get the mucus out. It also has anti-inflammatory properties to help heal skin issues and reduce redness. Eucalyptus has a cooling effect and can help with cold sore symptoms and joint/muscle pain. Eucalyptol is the compound responsible for Eucalyptus’ healing benefits and essentially what the plan is named after. Native to Australia it is a newer discovery, but you cannot mistake the smell- Vicks vapor rubs use Eucalyptus oil in their recipe.

Spearmint- Helps sooth achy muscles and joints. Has a sweet minty smell and much less burn than peppermint.

Lemon oil was introduced to the world via ayurvedic teachings and eventually spread from India to Egypt to Rome. Lemon is a total power house mostly used in home cleaning due to the anti-microbial properties but it can also be used to clean the skin.  Lemon is amazing for acne because it cleans the skin. clears dead skin cells, and helps fight hyper-pigmentation left from acne scars. In a bath it does this for the whole body, the smell is mood boosting and clean.   * Please Note oils that contain high vitamin C (like Citrus fruits) can make your skin more venerable to sunburn. Please do not use before going into the sun.

Patchouli has a musky earthy scent and is most widely known as the hippie smell. This is possibly because of the peaceful, grounding effect has. Did you know it is anti-inflammatory?   It helps with swelling and pain relief as part of it’s anti-inflammatory response. It is a vasodilator (opens blood vessels) so if you take blood thinners or have a recent surgery please be careful. Very helping for arthritis. Vasodilators also help with the skin leaving it looking tightened and firm due to increased blood flow. Men this one is for you too.  The Patchouli plant is related to the family of other well-known aromatic plants, including Mint, Lavender, and Sage but it originated in South East Asia. Like these plants, Patchouli is calming and can be used to induce relaxation and aid with anxiety. — Used in this recipe to open blood vessels in the nose, sinus cavity and chest.

Grapefruit is the #1 mood enhancer in aromatherapy. In a diffuser it is great for anxiety, depression, jetlag or just needing to focus.  The scent is also said to increase energy levels and metabolism, and aid in weight loss or decreased appetite.   It has Antimicrobial properties which is great for cleansing the skin.  Grapefruit oil promotes and even skin tone by absorbing extra oil spots. In this blend it is used to uplift mood and help break up mucus by the strong citrus smell.
