The Earth is Our Home
The Earth is so vital to all of us; from the air we breathe, to the water we drink to the food that we eat. It is a supple yet destructive vast area of landscapes, each with their own intricate cycles of growth, death and rebirth. Our home is so beautiful. I’m thankful that I am lucky enough to wake up to the delicate drops of dew and a sky that paints me a new colorful vison each morning. I love the smell of salty beach air and the stability of soft grass underneath my feet. I understand why Earth Day was created, she is important and needs to be recognized and cared for.
What is Earth Day?
Earth Day is a holiday that recognizes the importance of the Earth. It is celebrated each year on April 22nd and is globally recognized. The first Earth day was in 1970 and the U.S. government passed the EPA- Environmental Protection Agency, The Clean Air, Water and Endangered Species Acts to celebrate.

This year 2023 Earth Day is on Saturday. The perfect day to hit up a local farmer’s market. Buy some local plants, herbs, fruits, veggies or even honey.
7. Eat Salads, Fruits and Veggies.
Things that grow from the ground are highlighted today. Leafy greens (Spinach) and roots (potatoes/ sweet potatoes) are some of my favorites.
8. Practice Gratitude for the Earth
You can do this anywhere. If you see something beautiful in nature, acknowledge its beauty and feel thankful for it.
9. Collect Rain Water
You can use rain water to water your plants inside or out. You can use it to wash your car or your hair. Cut down on using retreated water, you can save money and the environment.
10. Start a Compost Bin
This is a lot simpler than most people think. All you need is a trash can and a space in your yard or storage bin. Use the Trash can inside to collect fresh food scraps and other compostable food waste. Once it is full, take it outside, dump it in the specific place and cover with soil. It will break down and make good potting soil for your plants or to grow green green grass.
Happy Earth Day!
I hope you pick at least one way to celebrate Earth Day. We are so lucky to live in such an amazing place, it’s a great way to honor mother Earth.
